Exciting news day
It must be busy in the newsrooms right now.
It's kicking off in Edinburgh, in and out of the hotel. And in 45 minutes, we're due to find out if London gets the Olympics.
Both stories are interesting, and have ramifications long term. I suppose the G8 holds more global significance for humanity, but the Olympics would be fantastic in London, and a chance for us to throw off our cynical attitude towards major projects.
Listening to Radio 5 this morning, though, it does reveal how bad rolling new coverage can be. They have been talking about the Olympic decision all morning. But there's nothing to say. Here are the facts:
1. We have a moderate to good chance
2. Seb Coe is passionate.
3. The Olympic bid team have done a wonderful job
4. Paris is favourite.
5. The decision is due at 12.45
That's it. It doesn't matter how many pundits they drag out of the celeb cess-pit, they will all say the same thing.
In other news, I watched some footage of G8 protesters smashing car windows this morning. Maybe as I get older I get less radical, but seeing someone walk up to a car and smash its window, for no apparent reason just makes me think what a bunch of tossers some of the protesters are.
I'm fine with the road-blockers, and the Clown Army, but wanton destruction of property nothing to do with G8? How would that person feel if I stole all his clothes and pissed on his iPod as a protest?
