Casual dress? Not so casually done

Today I went to meet the CEO of River Island, that big high street clothing chain.

You know, the one that you may have shopped in a few years ago. And then, you went back in last year because you like their clothes. Only to find that you've gone past the threshold of their target age group.

The guy we met was 49, relatively straight-dressed. But he showed us round the design and buying floor. An exciting place, for sure, but for a thirty-something dressed in a suit, it was a little intimidating.

All the staff were dressed in uber-trendy casual dress. Clearly there's no formal dress code, but if you're working in the clothing retail business, can you imagine the unwritten rules and competition there must be to look "casual"?
